MANATEE — Bayshore High School’s band will have a lunch buffet fundraiser Saturday at Outback Steakhouse, 4402 Cortez Road.
The event is scheduled 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., said Don Burrow, band booster president.
Tickets are $15 person for an all-you-can eat steak and chicken buffet. Proceeds raised will pay for student band fees.

Pumpkin party set Friday
MANATEE — Students at Prine Elementary School with “H.E.R.O.” behavior will be treated to a pumpkin painting party on Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
H.E.R.O. stands for having respect, exhibiting responsibility, remembering safety and opening their mind to learning. When Prine students demonstrate those qualities, teachers reward them with H.E.R.O. coupons, according to information from the Manatee County School District. Students who earned 50 coupons this school year are eligible for the pumpkin painting party.

Nolan students raise money
MANATEE — Students and staff affiliated with Nolan Middle School’s Health Occupations Students of America organization recently raised more than $2,700 during a “Pennies for Pasta” fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The fundraiser pitted first-period classes against each other to raise the most money, according to information from the Manatee County School District. Seventh-grade teacher Danielle Rogers and her students won the competition and earned lunch at Olive Garden. In addition, Nolan students who did a great job received “Shiny Penny Awards” and teachers whose classes earned over $100 received pennants to display in their classrooms.

Walkathon set Wednesday
MANATEE — A Walkathon will be held at Johnson Middle School on Wednesday to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to fight breast cancer, according to information from the Manatee County School District.
Students at Johnson will donate money through their math classes and will participate in the walka-thon throughout the day.

Local woman appointed
TALLAHASSEE — Wanda Read-Burke, 52, of Bradenton, has been appointed to the Manatee Early Learning Coalition for an Oct. 16 - April 30, 2011, term, according to information from the state. She succeeds James Stansbury and is a Community Relations Representative with Florida Blood Services.
The Early Learning Coalition provides high-quality early care and education programs through public funding, ensuring that all Manatee County children are “ready” for kindergarten, according to a press release. It is accomplished through two programs, Voluntary Prekindergarten and School Readiness.
