School briefs: Mustang Mania festival set

LAKEWOOD RANCH — The Lakewood Ranch Band Association is hosting a Mustang Mania Festival next weekend.

The event — 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Oct. 17, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 18 — will have entertainment, contests, carnival rides, food and arts and crafts, according to band association co-president Cathy Howze.

The purpose of the festival is to raise money for the Lakewood Ranch Music Program and other school-related programs, Howze said.

Kickball Day set today at Peace Lutheran

MANATEE — Peace Lutheran School will host Kickball Day today for more than 120 students from eight schools all over the state.

The South Atlantic Lutheran Schools Association, made up of Lutheran elementary schools throughout Florida and Georgia, assembles several times a year for different academic and athletic competitions.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to information from Peace Principal Nathan Nolte.

Bradenton Prep homecoming set for Oct. 16

BRADENTON — Bradenton Preparatory Academy’s homecoming and fall festival are set for Oct. 16.

The events are open to the public and will be at the school’s campus, 900 40th Ave. W. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m.

The homecoming varsity football game starts at 7:30 p.m. with halftime introductions of the school’s Patriot’s Court, according to information from the school.

The festival midway includes inflatable jump and challenge stations, face painting, games, raffles, food and a teacher dunk tank.

Educational iTunes site launched

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Education recently launched its new iTunes U Web site, which provides free multimedia content to schools, parents, administrators and teachers statewide and around the world.

As part of iTunes U, an area of the iTunes Store offering free education content, the new site provides access to audio, video and text files that are designed to enhance what, when and where individuals learn, according to a press release from the state DOE.

The Web site address is www.floridaitunesu.com.

Davis Building gala set for Nov. 21

MANATEE — A gala is set for Nov. 21 to honor the historic Paul F. Davis Building, scheduled to be rebuilt in January.

The event and fundraiser, planned by Manatee High School, will be held outside along 32nd Street West in Bradenton, according to information from the Manatee County School District.

The gala will include a “Taste of Manatee” dinner walk featuring a slew of the county’s fine dining establishments.

There will also be an entertainment showcase of Manatee High School talent, both past and present; a silent auction; a commemorative program that will highlight the history of Manatee High School and the opportunity to purchase customized commemorative bricks from the original Davis Building.
