SARASOTA — The local U.S. congressman who nominates graduating seniors to compete for educations in military academies plans to meet with interested students and families 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sarasota Military Academy, 801 North Orange Ave.
Selection to Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and Naval academies is competitive.
The seminar will provide high school students with information about the nomination process, the academies and career opportunities following graduation and commissioning as an officer, according to the staff of U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota.
“I encourage anyone interested in an appointment to attend this event,” Buchanan said in a press release issued Tuesday.
Peridia arts, craft show seeks vendors
EAST MANATEE — An arts and crafts show is scheduled for Nov. 5 in the Peridia subdivision.
Sponsor Ileen Davis said she seeks vendors at $25 a table for the Peridia Fine Art & Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4950 Peridia Blvd. on that Thursday.
