MANATEE — An Orlando man has been arrested on a charge of stealing trade secrets from a former boss who was holding an event to sell his golf equipment in a Manatee motel.

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Darrin Stephen Zaza, 44, after viewing surveillance video of him entering a conference room in a local Comfort Suite motel, April 5, where his former boss was planning to hold the event.

Sheriff’s detectives say the victim, owner of a Davenport golf equipment business, was holding a trade show in the conference room when Zaza stole from him, the sheriff’s report said.

Zaza is accused stealing documents containing the victim’s list of suppliers, bank account information, inventory lists, show schedules and business contacts. He also took documents containing the victim’s business strategy and future plans, according to the sheriff’s report.

Detectives arrested Zaza on a felony charge of theft of trade secrets.

Zaza was being held in the Manatee County jail on $10,000 bond.
