n The Manatee County school board appointed the following assistant principals: Carl Williams, Buffalo Creek Middle; Bradford Baietto, Sugg Middle; Yvette Benton, King Middle; Nancy Breiding, Buffalo Creek Middle; and Bradley Scarbrough, King Middle.
n Pittsburgh Pirates representatives, including their mascot, The Pirate Parrot, donated $10,548 to support education in the county. The donation represents proceeds from a benefit game played April 2 between the Pirates and Manatee Community College.
n The board recognized Samoset Elementary’s student and teacher achievement from raising their school grade from a C to an A.
