MANATEE — Several backflow preventers and flow meters were reported stolen from behind a shopping plaza located just off State Road 70 Thursday, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The missing parts could possibly hinder firefighters from hooking up to a water supply in the event of a fire, according to an incident report.

The brass connections were most likely taken with a large wrench. A total of four were reported stolen from behind Creekwood Plaza in the 7300 block of 52nd Place East where Lowe’s and Lifestyle Fitness are located.

It’s unclear when the theft occurred. Thieves sometimes take the metal parts to scrap for cash.

If caught, the person(s) responsible could face four counts of grand theft.

Anyone with any information can contact the sheriff’s office at 747-3011 or remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers at (866) 634-TIPS (8477).
