Restaurant steak heist reported

MANATEE — A couple was behind bars Tuesday after they failed to pay a local steak house for food and drinks then reportedly attempted to leave the restaurant with steak.

Rochelle M. Peters, 44, and Donald Barry Sullivan, 47, were each arrested on a charge of defrauding an innkeeper, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The couple allegedly ordered $109.58 worth of alcohol then Sullivan gave a waitress two credit cards which were declined.

Peters then wrapped her steak in a napkin, put it in her purse and left the restaurant, reports state. When confronted about concealing the steak, she reportedly told a deputy that she always puts her leftovers in her purse.

On Tuesday, both were incarcerated on $120 bond each at the Manatee County jail.

Sheriff’s office wins award

MANATEE — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has been named a winner in the 30th Annual TELLY Awards, an international competition whose winners were announced this week.

The Sheriff’s Office recruiting video, titled “You can make a difference,” was selected for honors from nearly 11,000 entries, according to a press release from Sheriff Brad Steube.

The five-minute video provides an overview of the agency and has been used around the state in an effort to attract quality job applicants.

Founded in 1979, the TELLY Awards are the premier award honoring the best local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the web.

Mail carrier threatened

MANATEE — A mail carrier was threatened when she accidently ran over a family’s dog.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report, the mail carrier was making her deliveries at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 5500 block of Fourth Court East in the Braden Crossings subdivision when the dog ran out into the street and in front of the mail carrier’s vehicle.

The mail truck struck and killed the dog.

The owner of the animal come out of his home and confronted the mail carrier, threatening her.

The wife of the man also began arguing with the mail carrier’s 17-year-old daughter, who was at the scene of the accident.

While arguing with the teenager, the woman threatened to go back into the house to get a knife, the sheriff’s report said.
