SARASOTA -- A Davie man was charged with burglarizing multiple vehicles at area beaches in 2014, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Jorge Alvarez, 53, was arrested at his home and is being held in the Broward County Jail. According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, he was arrested Monday. Sheriff spokeswoman Wendy Rose said in an email Wednesday that detectives went to the jail Tuesday to interview him.
Deputies said an investigation began in November 2014 following burglary reports in beach parking lots along Manasota Key Road in which someone stole cash, credit cards and jewelry from victims.
"When credit cards were used detectives obtained surveillance video of the suspect, but were not able to identify him until July 2015 when a latent fingerprint was recovered at one of the crime scenes and identified Jorge Alvarez as the suspect," a release states.
