SARASOTA -- A man was arrested on Thursday when police found 331 grams of marijuana, a semi-automatic handgun and $3,450 in cash at his Sarasota home, according to the Sarasota Police Department.
Isaiah L. Edwards, 37, was arrested in his home in the 2800 block of North Links Avenue in Sarasota on Thursday morning, according to release. Officers then conducted a search of the residence
Detectives found 221 grams of marijuana in Edwards' bedroom closet, along with a pistol, and another 108 grams in jars on his dresser, police said. Edwards admitted the marijuana was his but denied owning the firearm.
Edwards said a person who had died in April 2014 owned the gun and sometimes left his possessions at Edwards' home, according to the report. Police determined that Edwards had only lived at the current apartment for two months and thus would've known about the firearm.
Detectives found a total of 331 grams of marijuana, a scale, packing baggies and $3,450 in cash in addition to the gun. Edwards' apartment is within 1,000 feet of a church and he is a convicted felon.
Edwards was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a church, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released Friday from the Sarasota County jail on bonds totaling $15,500.
