LAKE PLACID -- A 55-year-old woman is in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital after she was struck by a drunken driver at 4:38 p.m. Friday while walking in Highlands County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Timothy Landers, 47, Lake Placid, was driving a 2001 blue Ford Ranger, FHP reported, eastbound on Washington Boulevard when the vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck the woman. The pedestrian was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle reportedly made a U-turn and began traveling westbound on Washington away from the crash.
The vehicle was discovered parked in a residential driveway about a half-mile away from the incident with damage consistent with the crash, according to FHP. The driver was arrested on felony charges of DUI with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of the crash involving serious bodily injury.
