SARASOTA -- One of three southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in south Sarasota County remains closed after a crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
About 2 a.m. near mile marker 202, all the southbound lanes were blocked after the driver of a semi-truck trailer jackknifed and spilled a load of lumber across all lanes of traffic and the highway's shoulders. A vehicle traveling behind the truck then hit the trailer, which started a fire, according to a news release.
No serious injuries were reported, but all three southbound lanes were closed, until shortly before 5:30 a.m., when FHP said only the outside, or right, southbound lane remained closed because of damage to the asphalt caused by the fire.
Mile marker 202 is about two miles north of State Road 681 near Venice.
