BRADENTON -- The brother of a man shot to death in Bradenton earlier this month was stabbed Sunday, and police are investigating whether the two attacks are connected, according to Bradenton police.
About 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of 14th Street West and found the victim, who had been stabbed in the upper left chest. Soon after, officers arrested the suspect, Norberto Cortes-Rivera, in the 2000 block of 14th Street West, police said.
The victim was taken to Blake Medical Center, where he was recovering after surgery, according to police.
A police spokesman said Monday detectives are exploring possible connections between the stabbing and the shooting death Dec. 20 of Samuel Conde.
Conde and the stabbing victim were brothers, according to police.
Conde, 25, was found dead in the driveway of a residence in the 3600 block of Ninth Street East. Witnesses told detectives that Conde, a reputed gang member, had been involved in some sort of altercation before he was shot. A second man also was shot and wounded.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Cortes-Rivera, 33, who faces a charge of aggravated battery in the stabbing case, is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
