MANATEE -- Deputies found a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire and shell casings, after responding to reports that people in two vehicles had been shooting at each other, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
There were no reports of injuries in the shooting, which happened along Ninth Street East, about four blocks from where Samuel Conde, a 25-year-old gang member, was shot to death early Saturday. A sheriff's office news release did not say whether investigators believe the two shootings were connected.
About 1:08 a.m., deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 4000 block of Ninth Street East and that people in two cars were shooting at each other, according to the report.
Deputies canvassed the street and found shell casings in the 4000 and 4100 blocks of Ninth Street East. Also in the 4100 block, they found a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire, according to the report.
Conde and another man were shot early Saturday at a residence in the 3600 block of Ninth Street East, in an incident that investigators say may have been related to gang activity. No arrests have been made.
