MANATEE -- A Manatee jail escapee who was recaptured this past weekend will be in a Manatee County court on Tuesday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
Meren Thompson, who walked away from the jail inmate farm on Nov. 23, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. in Sanford, northeast of Orlando.
After escaping, authorities say Thompson stole a car in Hillsborough County.
The sheriff's office said Thompson will be court at 1 p.m. on the escape charge.
Never miss a local story.
Thompson was working in the aquatics area of the complex where inmates help farm and raise tilapia, according to the sheriff's office. Thompson had found a hole underneath the fence, believed to have been burrowed by an animal and Thompson continued to dig until he could escape, he said.
The fence is being repaired, according to authorities.
At the time of his escape, Thompson was serving time for contempt of court from a domestic-battery charge.
