EAST MANATEE -- The body of a fisherman was found in the area of Jigg's Landing in East Manatee, searchers report.
Wildlife officials had been looking for Alvin Lee White, 56, who was reported missing after he didn't return home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission led the search for White, 56, of Palmetto, whose last known location was at Jigg's Landing on Evers Reservoir, according to Dave Bristow, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
The man's boat was found Tuesday night on Braden River just south of Ward Lake with the front fishing chair broken free from its mount, according to Gary Morse, spokesman for the FWC.
Never miss a local story.
Deputies and FWC officials looked for White using a helicopter and marine patrols since 10 p.m. Tuesday night and were still searching Wednesday morning, according to Morse.
As the search went on Wednesday morning, family members and friends came to Jigg's Landing to wait in vigil.
They said White sold barbecue at a roadside stand and also worked on computers for the Federal Aviation Administration. An avid fisherman, White tried to get out on the water whenever possible.
White wasout on a 14-foot jon boat and apparently came to this location commonly. He was here just last Sunday.
White apparently taking the week off from work and told friends he just wanted to go fishing all week.
Officials found White's boat about 1 a.m. near Linger Lodge, and his body shortly before 1 p.m.
