BRADENTON -- A 24-year-old man was arrested after he was caught on video stealing an iPad belonging to a prosecutor who had left it on a chair in the jury assembly room at the Manatee County Judicial Center, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
About 9:30 a.m., Assistant State Attorney Jacqueline Smith had left her iPad. When she went to retrieve the iPad, it was gone, according to a news release.
The sheriff's office said footage taken by a security camera showed Christoper Rose sitting down in the chair next to where the iPad was placed.
"Rose then left the building heading south and you could see on video the outline of the iPade under his shirt stuck in the waistband of his pants," the release states.
A deputy went outside and found Rose and returned him to the courthouse.
"Rose state that he hid the iPad on the top floor of the public parking garage at the south end of the Judicial Center," the release states.
Along with Rose, the deputy went to the garage and recovered the iPad.
Rose was returned to the courthouse and was arrested on a charge of grand theft, according to the report.
Booking information for Rose was not the Manatee County jail website.
The Manatee County Judicial Center is located at 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
