A day after Bradenton-Sarasota were hit by record-high temperatures, it will be another hot and humid day with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms today in the Tampa Bay area.
According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez, temperatures and the heat index will soar and there will be a few afternoon thunderstorms.
"As the sea breeze forms in the afternoon, we will see some showers and thunderstorms," Marquez said. "But the big weather story for Tampa Bay is the heat. The high temperature yesterday at Tampa International Airport was 94 degrees, one degree shy of tying a record.
"We will have another round of temperatures near 94 degrees today and the heat index will be between 100 and 105."
Never miss a local story.
At Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, Thursday's high temperature was 98, breaking a 95-year-old record for Aug. 21.
For Friday, forecasters are calling for a high temperature of 94 in Bradenton, and heat index values as high as 105.
Conditions will be similar on Saturday then a higher rain chance on Sunday.
