SARASOTA -- A Venice man faces child pornography charges, after investigators found illegal images on his computer, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives working with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force determined that a particular Internet Prototcol, or IP, address was used to download 142 files "that contained hash values which were previously identified as files containing child pornography images and videos," a news release states. They determined that Comcast had leased the IP address to a customer in the 600 block of Sheridan Drive, Venice.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the address Friday morning.
The sheriff's office said the customer's son, Timothy Gaunt, 30, "admitted the images were his. A preliminary forensic scan of the computer revealed a sample of 18 images or videos depicting sexual conduct by a child," the report states.
Gaunt is charged with 18 counts of possession of sexual performance by a child. He could face additional charges as the investigation continues, the sheriff's office.
Gaunt is being held at the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office on bonds totaling $45,000.
