MANATEE -- The brakes of an employee of the Manatee Sheriff's Office failed Monday afternoon, causing a crash on Cortez Road, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The employee was traveling west on Cortez Road at 1:56 p.m. towards the intersection of 26th Street West, according to a report. She tried to brake her vehicle, but it failed to stop and crashed into the rear of another car, which then collided into a third car in front of it.
The two vehicles that were hit from the rear suffered only moderate rear end damage, and the original vehicle suffered moderate to heavy front end damage, according to deputies.
Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene to evaluate the victims of the crash, and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office employee was transported to Lakewood Ranch Hospital, according to the report. One victim was released at the scene and the other required no medical attention.
