MANATEE -- Seventeen people -- including a Bradenton police officer -- were arrested during a recent undercover sting targeting Internet prostitution, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.
The officer, Trenton Moore, was arrested June 4 and charged with solicitation. A patrolman, he resigned from the department on the same day, according to city of Bradenton human resources office.
In all, seven women were charged with prostitution, and 10 men were charged with prostitution, according to a news release.
The sheriff's office said the operation had been under way for several months.
"Detectives working in an undercover capacity posed as prostitutes and 'johns' and engaged in online conversation with potential suspects," the release states "Once the detective and suspect reached an agreement for a sex act in exchange for money, the two would meet at a predetermined location and the suspect was arrested."
The arrests were made on several dates, starting May 20 and ending June 25, according to the sheriff's office.
