MANATEE -- The first phase of the Lake Manatee Dam repair is a little behind schedule, due to recent rains and unexpected problems that required re-engineering, the Manatee County Commission was told Tuesday.
Mark Simpson, the county's water division manager, told the board that work slated for completion on June 14 was mostly but not fully finished.
Workers encountered a buried sheet pile wall underground that slowed progress on repairs, plus rain also created delays in the project, said Mark Simpson, the county's water division manager.
After the meeting, he estimated that the first phase as a whole was about 80 percent complete.
It was too early to say yet whether the big project designed to reinforce the structural integrity of the dam in Easty would cost more as a result, Simpson said.
