BRADENTON -- A gunman shot a man in the abdomen in the road early Monday morning, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Witnesses said two men were involved in a verbal altercation in the roadway of the 2000 block of 13th Street West at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday when the suspect, identified as Eugene Marshall, 26, pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the abdomen, according to a report. Marshall then fled on foot.
Witnesses told police they think the argument was about a drug deal gone bad.
Marshall has not yet been caught, according to police. Bradenton police say he faces charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. He is considered armed and dangerous.
The victim was transported to Blake Medical Center, where he under went surgery and is currently recovering, according to the report. He is in stable condition.
Marshall is currently out on bond for a May 16 arrest for possession of marijuana charge. At the time of his arrest he was also charged with tampering evidence, but the State Attorney's Office has chosen only to prosecute him on the possession charge.
He is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment hearing in that case at 8:25 a.m. June 17.
Marshall was released from the Florida Department of Corrections on Aug. 6, 2013, after serving a four-year sentence for one count of possession of cocaine and two counts of selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school in Charlotte County.
His prior convictions in Manatee and Sarasota counties include possession of marijuana and robbery.
