MANATEE -- The Manatee Community Foundation donated about $30,000 to animal welfare agencies who took in a total of more than 300 animals from the Napier Family Farm and Animal Rescue.
“Animal welfare organizations were badly in need after taking in more than 300 dogs, cats, horses and other animals,” said Marilyn Howard, executive director of MCF. “The $30,701 contributed by MCF donors and residents will greatly help support their efforts.”
Funds went to Canine Castaways, Cat Depot, Humane Society of Manatee County, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, Sixteen Hands for Whispering Ranch and Safe Haven Animal Rescue, which provided food, medicine and vet care.
Napier's Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary, 20010 State Road 64 E., was raided Feb. 5 by a multi-agency law enforcement effort led by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. As a result, more than 300 animals were seized from what investigators called "deplorable" conditions, and the remains of 20 more were uncovered.
