UPDATE: Investigators will recommend charges against the driver responsible for the hit-and-run crash in Sarasota that sent a 13-year-old boy to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday , according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The suspect, Donald Ray Thomas Jr., may face charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.
The case will be handed over to the State Attorney's Office to make the decision whether to file charges.

SARASOTA — A hit-and-run crash in Sarasota sent a 13-year-old boy to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
At 9:56 a.m. Thursday, a vehicle struck a bicyclist southbound on the edge of Lockwood Ridge Road, according to a news release.
The vehicle, described as a Chrysler Pacifica, hit the cyclist with its right front as it passed the bicycle throwing the teen to the pavement, FHP reported.
The vehicle stopped and its driver fled on foot, according to FHP. The passenger, 21-year-old Derrick Brown Jr. from Sarasota, got behind the wheel and also fled, according to FHP.
Brown Jr. was charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction.
The victim was air-lifted to All Children’s Hospital and listed in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing.
