MANATEE -- A 34-year-old man slashed his own neck with a knife during a standoff with deputies in East Manatee on Monday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Erik Clark had earlier hit his ex-wife during an argument about 2:19 p.m. in the 200 block of Cape Harbour Loop in Heritage Harbour, and a witness who tried to intervene, before fleeing to the 600 block of 67th Street Circle East, near the Interstate 75/State Road 64 interchange, according to a news release.
During a confrontation with deputies that started about 3:52 p.m., Clark held a knife to his throat and slashed his neck several times, "causing a lot of bleeding," the sheriff's office said. Deputies had deployed their stun guns without effect.
"After a long standoff, Clark was taken to the ground, disarmed and arrested," the report states.
He was taken to a hospital, and later booked into the Manatee County jail, where he was being held without bond on charges of domestic battery and battery.
