Authorities are looking for a driver who crashed into another car while making an illegal u-turn Saturday morning.
The crash happened around 8:43 a.m. on 26th Street West at Cortez Road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The driver of what is described as a dark gray SUV was stopped in the left lane at a traffic light facing northbound but attempted to make a u-turn while the traffic signal was still red, the report states.
The SUV collided with the right front of a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder that was stopped in the left turn lane, completed the u-turn and left the scene headed southbound on 26th Street West.
The driver of the Pathfinder, a 41-year-old Sarasota man, and his 12-year-old passenger were uninjured.
The driver of the SUV is described as a man in his 20s with short, dark hair.
His car "looked similar to a Jeep Cherokee," a witness told the highway patrol, and a hubcap at the scene indicated it may have been a Chevrolet. The vehicle had damage to the left front bumper and down its left side, and the rear bumper was hanging down, according to the report.
Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any more information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.
