CLEARWATER -- A Clearwater couple are accused of strangling and slapping their 14-year-old daughter because she forged grades on her report card, according to arrest affidavits.
Francis Sabo, 60, and his wife, Camille Sabo, 49, were both arrested on a felony child abuse charge.
According to a Clearwater Police report, Francis strangled the victim causing her to cough and gasp for air and when she tried to escape Camille slapped the teen across the face with an open hand. Police said the victim's sister witnessed the abuse and both girls were able to flee to a neighbor's home to get help. The incident happened just after midnight on Wednesday at the 1400-block of San Juan Ct., in Clearwater.
Bay News 9 saw a DCF case worker interviewing that neighbor. Both the neighbor and case worker declined a request for an interview.
But another neighbor, Clyde Hillstead, said he witnessed some of the abuse and feels awful for the teen. "This has got to end because it's getting ridiculous," said Clyde Hillstead. "Cops are over there constantly."
Camile Sabo denied touching the child and told officers, "only Frank did," according to the report.
A judge gave both parents a $30,000 bond each for the child abuse charge.
