MANATEE — A vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Interstate 75 in northern Manatee County sent a patient to a local hospital with serious injuries.
“It was a trauma alert and the patient was taken to Blake Medical Center,” said Capt. Mike Petrilla of the Manatee County Emergency Communications Center.
The victim was reportedly in serious condition Monday night.
The crash was reported at 2:32 p.m. on the southbound exit ramp at the interchange with Moccasin Wallow Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol website.
FHP first reported a “possible fatality,” but Petrilla said that was not the case.
“Our first shift in the communications center advised me that it was not a fatality,” Petrilla said.
He said “trauma alert” signals hospital personnel a patient is coming in with serious injuries.
The exit ramp was closed after the crash but it was reopened after authorities cleared the area.
