The film festivals keep on coming for “Through the Tunnel.”
First there was the DocMiami International Film Festival in May for METV’s award-winning documentary about Lincoln Memorial High School at the onset of integration.
Then there was Atlanta’s Peachtree Village International Film Festival in July.
Next up is the Clearwater International Film Festival and the documentary will be shown 9 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Largo Cultural Center.
The documentary has also been accepted at the Naples International Film Festival in November.
“Just being invited is great, because there are hundreds of films entered in each festival,” said Charles Clapsaddle, METV’s station manager.
The Clearwater event is its inaugural and the venue is new, too.
“It’s supposed to be beautiful, so this ought to be a lot of fun,” Clapsaddle said.
“Through the Tunnel” features coach Eddie Shannon and protege Henry Lawrence, a three-time NFL champion offensive tackle with the Oakland Raiders.
Co-produced by Judges Durand Adams and Charles Williams, it won Best Historical Documentary Award at the DocMiami International Film Festival.
It did not win any awards in Atlanta.
“Even though we didn’t didn’t win anything, we had the most people,” Clapsaddle said. “Coach had a lot of extended family there and he was a hit. People were bee-lining to meet him.”
