Jerry Ammons is new director of the Manatee Gulfcoast Sandpiper Barbershop Chorus, which performs for various local groups and organizations while its quartets serenade individuals with singing Valentines.
“The purpose of the Manatee Gulfcoast Sandpiper Chorus is to have fun singing, socializing and providing entertainment,” said Ammons, a former high school music teacher, church choir director and barbershop quartet member in Findlay, Ohio.
The chorus meets at the Town Center at Water’s Edge of Bradenton, 3132 21st Lane W., Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.
“This is not a competing chorus,” Ammons said. “One need not be a great singer nor is it necessary to read music. No auditions are required. Men interested in barbershop style music are invited to stop by and find out what barbershoppers mean when they say, ‘It’s impossible to sing and be angry.’”
