Animal sanctuary seeks dog food

MANATEE — With the increase in animal surrenders due to the bad economy, Napier’s Log Cabin Horse & Animal Sanctuary Inc. is in need of dog food donations to help feed the animals living there until they are adopted.

Bags of food can be dropped off at the front gate of the Sanctuary, 20010 State Road 64 East; Tractor Supply, 4404 S.R. East; Sherrie’s Furniture & Appliances, 5523 15th St. E.; Ruff Cuts, 502 36th St. W.; and Bradenton Small Animal Hospital, 1324 17th Ave. W.

Palmetto ag event on bugs

PALMETTO — The second family social of the summer at the county historical park is all about bugs. Build a ladybug house, put together a butterfly feeder, play games and participate in crafts. And, the activity is free.

The event — Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! — is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Palmetto Historical Park and Manatee County Agricultural Museum, 515 10th Ave. W.

Carlos Beruff to water board

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Charlie Crist on Tuesday appointed Parrish home builder Carlos Beruff to the governing board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Beruff, 51, is president of Medallion Homes Gulf Coast. If confirmed by the Senate, he will replace former Manatee County Commissioner Pat Glass and serve on the SFWMD board July 21 to March 1, 2013.

Reappointed to the board was Polk City Realtor C.A. “Neil” Combee Jr.
