LAKEWOOD RANCH — The new principal of Lakewood Ranch High School is expected to emerge from a field of eight candidates identified by the Manatee School District.

That field will be narrowed to three finalists Monday when a committee of district officials, a teacher, a school support representative and a school advisory committee member holds closed-door interviews at the district office in downtown Bradenton.

The three finalists will be introduced to the public 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Ranch High School. During the forum, the public will be able to meet the finalists and question them, said Angela Essig, director of secondary schools.

In all, 16 persons applied for the principal’s job, but not all were qualified, Essig said.

Mike Wilder, principal of Lakewood Ranch High School since 2002, was recently named district coordinator of school leadership development. This year, Lakewood Ranch was the only Manatee County high school to receive an “A” grade from the state.

The eight candidates who will be interviewed Monday are:

n Carl Auckerman, assistant principal at Palmetto High School

n Jeremiah Bundrage, curriculum math leader from the Atlanta area

n Valerie Jones, assistant principal at Braden River High School

n David Marshall, assistant principal at Lakewood Ranch High School

n Melanie Metz, an assistant principal from the Buffalo, N.Y., area

n Linda Nesselhauf, assistant principal of Manatee High School

n Eric Palmu, a retired superintendent from Kalamazoo, Mich.

n Don Sauer, assistant principal at Lakewood Ranch High School.

Superintendent Tim McGonegal will make the final choice on the new Lakewood Ranch principal, sending his recommendation to the school board on either July 13 or 27 for its confirmation.

The school board is also scheduled to consider confirming new principals for King and Sugg middle schools July 13.

Robin Hardy, an assistant principal at King, is in line for the principal’s job at that school.

Sharon Scarbrough, a former assistant principal at Buffalo Creek and Haile middle schools, is in line for the Sugg job.
