MANATEE — County Commissioner Larry Bustle is slated Monday to discuss how officials are trying to stimulate the local economy. He will speak at the second general meeting of Myakka City Action Committee, Inc.

The action committee is a group of Myakka residents who joined together to help Myakka find its civic voice, said Pamela Green, president.

“The purpose of the committee is to unite the community and try to help keep everybody informed and on-task,” Green said Friday.

“In essence, we know change is going to happen, so we want to help form Myakka City into what we want it to be, try to form the voice of the Myakka City so everybody is together on what they want,” Green said.

She said the nonprofit organization is not a political action committee, but is designed to address any issue and keep people informed.

She said Bustle was invited because part of his commission district covers Myakka, Duette and the northern side of State Road 675.

“They asked me to talk about the economic situation, about the county and what we’ve been trying to address and the stimulus things, our local thing we’ve been doing here, trying to make our county business-friendly, changes in the staff,” Bustle said.

The event is set for 7-8 p.m. Monday at Myakka City Worship Center, 33410 Singletary Road, Myakka City.
