The most inexpensive health insurance plan for individuals in Manatee County on the new government-run online marketplace is a bare-bones catastrophic plan.
The premium for the plan offered by Aetna -- $143 a month for a 27-year-old -- is $57 more than the cheapest coverage available in all of Florida, a similar bare-bones plan offered by CoventryOne for residents in Broward County.
But on average, Manatee County residents who go online to buy their health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, will pay less than their counterparts statewide. The website is healthcare.gov.
The average premium cost for all the plans offered in Florida's 67 counties at all levels -- catastrophic, bronze, silver, gold and platinum -- is $264.45 a month for a 27-year-old resident, and $893.27 for a family.

In Manatee, where four providers are competing for business, the average is $258.01 per month for an individual, and $871.49 for a family.
Manatee residents who choose the minimal coverage offered by a catastrophic plan will have only two choices on the online exchange: Aetna's plan, or a plan offered by Florida Blue at $185 a month
for a 27-year-old.
For a family, Aetna's plan costs $484 a month; Florida Blue's, $625.
In all, Manatee residents have 69 plans to choose from online offered by four providers: Aetna, Cigna, Florida Blue and Florida Blue HMO.
The most expensive plan available to Manatee shoppers is a platinum plan offered by Florida Blue: $331 a month for an individual, and $1,117 for a family.
In Manatee, the average cost of the catastrophic plans is $164 a month for an individual, and $554 for a family. Statewide, the averages are $176 and $593, respectively.
The average cost of the bronze plans available in Manatee is $219 a month for an individual, and $794 for a family. Statewide, the averages are $222 and $750, respectively.
The average cost of the silver plans available in Manatee is $257 a month for an individual, and $869 for a family.
Statewide, the averages are $261 and $881, respectively.
The average costs of the gold plans available in Manatee are $285 for an individual and $964 for a family.
Statewide, the averages are $289 and $977, respectively.
And for the platinum plan, the averages in Manatee are $307 for an individual and $1,039 for a family.
Statewide, the averages are $316 and $1,067, respectively.
Roughly half of Florida's 3.5 million uninsured residents may be eligible for federal subsidies to help them purchase insurance, according to the liberal advocacy group Families USA.
But the amount will vary widely depending on income, location, the plan, family size, age, even tobacco use. Florida residents can choose from 102 plans, the second-highest of any state.
