BRADENTON -- Ryan Saxe, director of professional learning for the Manatee County School District, is set to be promoted to executive director of secondary schools during a Manatee County School Board meeting Tuesday, rounding out the district's top leadership jobs.
Saxe will take the place of Cynthia Saunders, who was promoted to deputy superintendent of instruction in July after Diana Greene left the position to become superintendent.
Saxe moved from West Virginia to join the district in September 2014 as director of professional learning. Saxe was responsible for organizing and arranging training sessions for district employees. A large part of his career has been in secondary schools, he said. He previously worked as a teacher, assistant principal and high school principal in West Virginia.
When the position opened in Manatee County, he said it seemed like a natural fit.
Never miss a local story.
"You really start seeing those students come into their own," he said.
Saxe said he wants to build on the work Saunders started
and continue to improve the district graduation rate.
"That's our ultimate goal," he said.
During the summer, the board also created and filled a number of other district-level positions:
John Kenney was hired as professional standards investigator, replacing Troy Pumphrey, whose contract was not renewed.
Sarah Brown was hired as chief human resources officers, replacing Odesa Stapleton, who left the district to be closer to family in New Jersey.
Sandra Ford was promoted to the new position of chief support services officer, leaving her position as head of food and nutrition.
Regina Thoma was promoted to head of food and nutrition.
Jason Montgomery was promoted from athletics director at Manatee High School to the new position of supervisor of athletics and physical education.
Danielle LaPoint was hired as athletics director.
"Our senior level administration looks to be complete and we can all work together now in moving our district forward," Saunders said.
