Registration underway for Manatee schools
MANATEE COUNTY -- Parents should register their child with Manatee County School District as soon as possible to make sure students are ready to attend class on the first school day, according to officials.
School starts for students Aug. 24. To register, parents should visit the school or schools where their children are assigned.
If a parent does not know which school their student is assigned to attend, they can visit the school district website at manateeschools.net, click on the "Parents" page and go to: "Assigned Schools by Address." Parents can click on the link and input their address to learn which elementary, middle and high school is assigned to the address.

Palmetto Youth Center plans summer bash Aug. 15
PALMETTO -- The back-to-school party at the Palmetto Youth Center will feature school supply giveaways, food and entertainment for children.
The event is planned to run from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 at the youth center, 501 17th St. W. in Palmetto.
Saint Stephen's students win Latin competition
BRADENTON -- Eighteen Saint Stephen's Episcopal School students joined more than 1,600 Latin students nationwide for the 2015 National Junior Classical League Forum in San Antonio.
Saint Stephen's students won the national championship in advanced certamen, finished second at novice certamen, and posted top-10 finishes in academics, art and athletics, according to school officials.
Every Saint Stephen's student competitor had at least one top-10 finish in academics or creatives.
Joe Class, Ethan Leuchter, MaryAnn Placheril, and Matthew Thomas were members of Florida's Certamen teams. Certamen is an academic team-style game divided into three divisions: novice (first-year students), intermediate (second-year) and advanced (levels three and above).
