Bradenton Christian School graduation notes
Class speaker: Trent Christman.
Commencement address: Roger Kragt.
Never miss a local story.
Shining moment: Roger Kragt, 65, retired Friday after 32 years as a social studies teacher at BCS. He took advantage of his last teaching moment to deliver a stunning commencement speech about God's eagerness to do "rehab" projects on people just as people rehab broken-down homes. When Kragt was 11, his father died in a car crash. "I had some great male role models step in," Kragt said. Since his retirement, students from 30 years ago to today have been posting on a Facebook page devoted to Kragt. "Mr. Kragt has changed the lives of so many," said Judy Barber, a BCS staffer. "He is just an awesome teacher. The kids say he is honorable, caring and fun."
Best quote: "If we have faith, then everything we have done in our lives matters. Even cutting the grass." -- Roger Kragt
Interesting: A chorus made up of BCS kindergartners known as the Panther Cubbies sang two songs. Thanks to the TV cameras at Bayside Community Church, the whole crowd could see their little faces. What a hoot to show the video years from now when they graduate.
