BRADENTON -- A South Carolina school district interested in hiring Diana Greene, Manatee County School District deputy superintendent of instruction, has chosen to go in another direction.
Greene was one of three finalists in Richland One, a district in the greater Columbia area. At a special meeting in February, the board chose to enter contract negotiations with Craig Witherspoon, who most recently served as superintendent of Birmingham City Schools in Alabama.
Greene also fell short of the superintendent job in St. Lucie. The St. Lucie School Board voted unanimously to hire Wayne Gent as superintendent, but Greene was the second choice, according to the board meeting agenda posted online Tuesday.
Greene was the No. 2 candidate for the Manatee County School District superintendent job when Rick Mills was hired.
