BRADENTON -- A bus carrying 48 students from Prine Elementary School was involved in an accident with a car on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident, which took place at 26th Street West and 26th Avenue Drive West, was called into the Manatee County Emergency Communications Center at about 3:17 p.m. According to a report, Jesse Lee Johnson, 24, was stopped at a posted stop sign at the intersection. Another vehicle was traveling southound on 26th St. W. approaching 26th Avenue Drive in the right lane. FHP officials said Johnson attempted to make a right turn onto 26th St. W. and entered the other vehicle's path.
According to a report, the front of the school bus struck the right side of the other vehicle. An official with FHP said Wednesday night that the school bus driver was at fault.
"There was only one minor reported injury to a student," according to the FHP report.
A message was sent home to parents, said Mike Barber, school district spokesperson.
