Manatee District college prep info night set Oct. 7
BRADENTON -- Representatives from about 100 universities, colleges, technical academies and other institutes of higher learning will be on hand to speak to students and parents from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Manatee High School.
The Manatee County School District's "Post-Secondary Education Night" is free and all Manatee high school students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn about the application and enrollment process for post-secondary institutions, the cost of a college education, financial aid and scholarship assistance.
Check-in will be in the new gymnasium at Manatee High School, 902 33rd St. Court W., Bradenton.

Lee Middle School student wins state poetry prize
BRADENTON -- Nicole Wright, an eighth-grader at Lee Middle School, won first place in the 2014 Florida Council of Teachers of English 2014 Division I writing contest for her poem titled "Imperfect."
She was sponsored by teacher Ashley Bower.
Students in grades six through 12 could submit up to three entries. Winners received certification, recognition at the 2014 FCTE Fall Conference, $100 and copies of the 2014 Students Writing Anthology.
