MANATEE COUNTY - The Manatee County School District is holding its public hearing to discuss the tentative 2013-2014 budget Thursday at 1 p.m.
Steve Valley, the district's new executive director of communications and community and family engagement, said the meeting time was scheduled for the afternoon to "give people who couldn't make it after hours a chance to see it live."
This is one of two public hearings on the budget. This one is not state-mandated.
"If people cannot attend, they can always watch it on television," Valley said.
Never miss a local story.
School board member Dave "Watchdog" Miner says he does not know if the afternoon time will affect attendance.
"I certainly want to hear what the public has to say," Miner said. "There are things we can tweak, and there may be changes as a result of what the public suggests."
The final budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year must be approved at the September 9 public hearing. The final public hearing will be in the evening, at 5:45 p.m.
