The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Sarasota man was arrested about 3 p.m. Friday, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Tannis Phillips Jr., 29, was arrested at the intersection of University Parkway and Tuttle Avenue with help from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release. He was charged with second-degree murder in the July 13 fatal shooting of Darryl A. Davis, 39.
Phillips was held at Manatee County jail without bond.
At 4:39 a.m. July 13, deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2900 block of Hillview Street in Sarasota and found Davis. The victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant Thursday charging Phillips with Davis’ murder.
Phillips’ criminal history includes convictions for robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and grand theft.
