MIAMI -- The Pink Pony, a long-established Doral strip joint not far from the Palmetto Expressway, was shut down Tuesday after Hialeah cops charged a man with allowing his underage teenage daughter to commit illicit activities there, police said.
On Tuesday, Doral code compliance officers — who themselves did not investigate the alleged goings on at the club — issued the Pink Pony an emergency close order and shuttered its doors. Club owners now have a week to make their case to a magistrate to get the club up and running again.
“It was based on the allegations made by Hialeah,” Doral Police Lt. Carlos Arango said.
The allegations: Jose Manuel Arguelles took his 16-year-old daughter and her 17-year-old friend to the club and allowed them to smoke weed, snort cocaine, and dance on a stage. The arrest affidavit doesn’t say whether the girls were clothed onstage.
Never miss a local story.
Arguelles, 59, was arrested by Hialeah police Tuesday and charged with child neglect, allowing a child under 18 to do cocaine and smoke marijuana, and eight counts of sexual performance by a child to promote sex. He was transported to Turner Guilford Knight correctional facility, and bond was set at $45,000.
His attorney, Chris Mancini, said the arrest affidavit at least sets up a case for child abuse and supplying a child with drugs, but he doesn’t see a case for sexual misconduct.
“This is just one of those cases where nobody read the statute,” Mancini said.
Arguelles’ arrest affidavit doesn’t name the teens. It says the 16-year-old is Arguelles’ daughter. Arguelles is divorced, and he and his ex-wife share custody of the girl.
According to the arrest report, the 17-year-old’s mother saw pictures and video on a cellphone of the teens doing drugs inside the Pink Pony, 7971 NW 33rd St. She then went to police.
Police said the girls admitted Arguelles took them to the club several times since the daughter turned 16 in March. She also admitted, police said, to doing drugs and drinking inside the Pink Pony.
Arguelles, who told police he’s a club promoter, also admitted to bringing his daughter and her friend to the club and allowing them to drink, according to the police report.
“The defendant also has photos and videos showing the victims dancing on what appears to be a ‘stripper pole,’ while on the defendant’s boat, wearing bikinis in the presence of adults,” the arrest affidavit claims.
The report also says police found photos of one of the teens on a stage at the Pink Pony.
“The defendant admitted that he was wrong for exposing the victims to the environment of the strip club,” says the report.
