SARASOTA -- A Nokomis man has been charged with stealing a dead woman's checkbook and forging a check to buy the Dodge pick-up truck he was driving when he was arrested last week, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Bryan Humberger, 46, faces multiple charges, according to a news release.
"Deputies stopped Bryan Humberger as he left a local scrap yard last week and arrested him on several warrants," the release states. "During questioning, Humberger admitted stealing power tools and a license plate from a Venice home and a kayak from North Jetty Kayak Rentals.
"During their investigation, detectives confirmed he also stole a checkbook from the home of a Nokomis woman who died in December 2013. Humberger forged a check from her closed account to pay for the black Dodge truck he was driving at the time of his arrest, which was reported stolen by the seller after the check bounced," the report states.
Humberger is charged with two counts of burglary, one count of grand theft, one count of criminal Use of personal identification, one count of forging a check, one count of grand theft auto, two counts of false ownership to a pawn broker and one count of dealing in stolen property.
Humberger was being held at the Sarasota County jail on bonds totaling $97,500
