A trailer somehow became detached and came to a rest in the middle of U.S. 27 amid the predawn fog Tuesday, leading to multiple crashes that killed four people and injured two others in Palm Beach County, the Florida Highway Patrol said, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
A tractor-trailer was southbound on U.S. 27, about six miles south of South Bay, when its trailer detached and was left sitting in the middle of the roadway about 5:42 a.m., according to Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky.
A Ford hit the rear right corner of the trailer and a pickup hit the left rear corner of the trailer. Moments later, another tractor-trailer hit the Ford, sending both into a swampy area near the side of the road, the newspaper reported.
