MANATEE -- A Manatee County school bus driver rear-ended another vehicle while traveling at 3:49 p.m. Monday on State Road 70, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
An 18-year-old Bradenton man driving a Jeep Cherokee was eastbound in the left lane on S.R. 70 approaching 24th Street Court East, FHP troopers reported, and a Manatee school bus driven by a 46-year-old Bradenton woman was right behind the Jeep.
As traffic began to slow, the bus driver merged into the left turn lane onto U.S. 301, according to the report. Failing to calculate the space needed between the Jeep and concrete median, the right front of the bus struck the left-rear side of the Jeep.
Seven children were in the bus at the time of the crash, according to FHP.
