CEDAR HAMMOCK -- Cedar Hammock and Southern Manatee fire rescue units rescued an occupant from a structure fire at 10:23 p.m. Saturday at 5917 14th St. W. Tradewinds MHP Lot 320.
Three engines and a battalion chief from Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue and one engine from Southern Manatee Fire Rescue responded as did two Manatee County EMS ambulances and their supervisor.
Cedar Hammock units arrived within 4 minutes of receiving the call from the Manatee County 911 center with smoke showing from the home.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was already on scene rescuing one person from inside the home. The conscious victim was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and minor burns.
A good Samaritan assisted a deputy with the quick rescue. The citizen was treated and released from the scene with smoke inhalation affects.
The couch fire was quickly extinguished with only minor smoke and heat damage to the home and no reported injuries to fire department or sheriff's office personnel.
Cedar Hammock Fire Prevention Bureau could not determine the cause of the fire because officials were not able to question the person transported to the hospital, according to the fire report.
