Three Florida Wildlife Commission officers conducted a replica deer sting to target illegal road hunting.
After a short wait, the officers reportedly observed a silver SUV turn around after spotting the deer and a passenger from the back seat shot the deer with a .22 caliber rifle.
The officers stopped the vehicle and reportedly discovered a 15-year-old juvenile had shot at the deer. His father was driving the vehicle and the juvenile said dad told him to shoot the deer. The father admitted to encouraging his son to use his rifle to shoot the deer, according to the report.
The juvenile was issued written warnings for taking wildlife from the right-of-way of a road, and discharge of a firearm from a paved public road. The juvenile’s father was issued citations for taking wildlife from the right-of-way of a road and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The names of the ticketed individuals were not released.
