SARASOTA -- A Sarasota convenience-store owner was charged with selling synthetic marijuana, an illegal substance that is also banned by county ordinance, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Ramadan Khader Alharbawi, 49, was arrested at 9:55 a.m. Friday at The Purple Store, 2222 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Sarasota. According to a release, 299 packages of "Spice" called "WTF," "Scooby Kush" and "Scooby Snax," as well as thousands of dollars in cash were seized as the result of a search warrant. The synthetic marijuana was hidden among shelving units and concealed inside food packaging, deputies said.
According to a release, Alharbawi was charged with two counts of sale of a controlled substance (XLR11), one count of sale of a controlled substance (synthetic cannabinoids) and one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Alharbawi is currently being held in Sarasota County Jail on $6,000 bond.
