SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred during a road rage incident shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.
The incident took place near the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and U.S. 41 in Sarasota. According to a news release, officers responded to a road rage incident that started when both individuals involved were in their vehicles.
Police said one individual spoke to another and the two met in the parking lot of Paradise Plaza in front of Petco, 3800 S Tamiami Trail #20, Sarasota.
Both individuals left their vehicles and, according to a release, began to fist fight. That's when the suspect produced a knife and began slashing at the victim and stabbed and slashed his face several times.
According to police, the suspect fled the area and was apprehended near the south side of Paradise Plaza by Sarasota police officers. The victim was taken by helicopter to a local hospital with facial injuries and the suspect was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with injuries sustained in the fight.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., Sarasota police tweeted that Upmans Towing had arrived to remove both the vehicles involved in the incident. A little over 15 minutes later, both vehicles had been towed away. The police department shared on Twitter that they will be processed for evidence.
